Abstract
The present paper gives the availability and profit analysis of a system comprising four optical lines out of which two are operative (working paths) and the other two are cold-standby (protection paths). Each working line has its own cold standby. On the failure of the working path, signal is transmitted and received from its own protection path and failed unit is gone under repair immediately by a repairman. If a working path and its corresponding protection path both get failed then system is said to be failed. The system is analysed by making use of semi-Markov processes and regenerative point technique. Various measures of system effectiveness have been obtained and the profit is also evaluated along with graphical studies.History
