Abstract.In this paper, by re-constructing the continuous
Glimm functional, we consider global classical solutions to the
Cauchy problem with initial data given on a semi-bounded axis for
quasilinear hyperbolic systems without assuming the systems to be
weakly linearly degenerate. An application is given for the system
of traffic flow.
