Abstract. The Mahlo rank of a cardinal is a measure of how often the Mahlo operation may be iterated, starting with the inaccessible cardinals, while still retaining a stationary set. It is a question of considerable interest, what the least value of this can be for a weakly compact cardinal. A lower bound is shown, of a right associated exponential stack of $\omega$ $\kappa^+$'s. Some other pertinent questions are discussed.
